Sandy Hook Shooting

Following the Dec. 14 massacre that left 20 students and six teachers dead, the Newtown Board of Education wants to put armed guards in schools.

The board voted Thursday to ask the town to allocate more money for full-time uniformed resource officers in the town's four elementary schools, NBC Connecticut reported Friday.

“After what happened in our community, i just think we should go over and above and provide a shining example for the rest of the world and protect our kids,” Newtown resident Donna Lorenz told NBC Connecticut.

The proposed resource officers would be Newtown cops.

The board's suggestion mirrors the National Rifle's Association's plan for keeping schools safe in the wake of the Newtown massacre.

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said in December "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" and pushed Congress to put armed guards in every school.
