Gita Hall May, 79, is suing the production company behind 'Mad Men' for the unauthorised use of a photograph taken of her in her Fifties modelling heyday.
Gita Hall May, one of the most successful models of the Fifties and Sixties’, is suing the production company behind Mad Men, Lionsgate, for using an image of her without consent.
The image of Hall May’s face, which features on a skyscraper in the opening credits of the award-winning drama, is cropped from a 1950s Revlon cosmetics advert shot by acclaimed photographer Richard Avedon.
Now 79-years-old, Hall May is seeking unspecified damages “suffered as a result of the unauthorized use” of her likeness which “appears more prominently and directly than any other image in that sequence.”
The suit, which was filed on March 1 at the Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that “The Main Titles were integral to the success of Mad Men” and that the show’s producers “have generated income in excess of $1 billion through exploitation of the series and its episodes.”
Hall May claims that her inclusion in the titles only came to her attention last May due to the show’s airing channel being on cable, reports deadline.com.
