Brooklyn Bridge SUV

New York City police shut down the Brooklyn Bridge for about an hour Monday while they investigated an abandoned vehicle.

Nothing suspicious was found in the vehicle, NYPD Lt. John Grimple told us.

Grimple said they do not yet know why the vehicle was abandoned, but police will be investigating further. The SUV didn't have any license plates, and police aren't yet sure who it belongs to.

Police started clearing the bridge at about 6 p.m., and it was closed to traffic in both directions. They called the vehicle "suspicious."

Detectives gave an all-clear and said they would start reopening the bridge at about 7 p.m, Steve Brusk of CNN reported.

The blue SUV sat abandoned in the Manhattan-bound lane, according to an NBC News reporter on Twitter.

A bomb squad — including a bomb-sniffing dog — investigated the car, according to a live feed from CBS. A man from the bomb squad removed what looked like pieces of cardboard from the vehicle.
