EARLIER: Santa Monica College near Los Angeles was reportedly on lockdown Friday after reports of shots fired near the campus.
Police confirmed to the CBS station in L.A. that a suspect was down in the library.
Details are still coming together in the case, and earlier reports said a suspect was in custody.
There are also reports that "dozens of shots" were fired at cars. The shooter may have had multiple weapons, according to 911 calls that came in about the shooting.
Police told NBC 4 in L.A. that there are "multiple victims." Two are reportedly in critical condition, according to CBS in L.A.
Students are taking final exams at the college. Finals scheduled for later today have been canceled. Other schools in the area are also on lockdown, and police are saying the situation is still "active."
There are also reports of a second shooter, according to Jake Tapper on CNN. That information has not yet been confirmed, but police are searching the area as a precaution. Some witnesses have said there may have been two shooters.

The LA Times reports that the shooting began when the suspect tried to break into a nearby home and set fire to another property. A bomb squad is searching the campus amid reports that bags might have been left behind in the library or somewhere nearby.

A witness who was sitting in the library at the time of the shooting told CNN that he heard a series of repetitive shots, ran outside and saw a car that was shot up outside the library.
The suspect may have been wounded by police.
President Obama is in Santa Monica on Friday for a luncheon fundraiser. The fundraiser was expected to go until 2 p.m. west coast time. The Secret Service says the shooting has not affected the event.
