Cycling's governing body will announce at 7 EDT whether it supports the lifetime ban on Lance Armstrong ordered by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Union Cycliste International (UCI) president Pat McQuaid could drive the final nail in the coffin for Armstrong, who has already lost most of his sponsors and may face lawsuits from them. UCI may also seek to counter criticism that it has been too lenient on doping and Armstrong.
Tour de France president Christian Prudhomme has said that he will strip Armstrong of his Tour titles if UCI supports the USADA decision.
If on the other hand UCI rejects the USADA findings, then this may go through a lengthy appeals process.
