Every week, the TSA blog posts a roundup of various prohibited items its agents have discovered on passengers and in their bags.
This week, the list included 10 grenades (four of them in carry-on bags) and 16 guns, nine of them loaded.
Both hand grenades and firearms are found on a regular basis at airport security, but last week showed a shift in the usual pattern.
The number of grenades found was unusually high, while the number of guns was significantly lower than average.
Each week, the TSA finds around 30 firearms. Over the last three months, that number has been as high as 47 (late September) and as low as 27 (mid-November).
Last week, the TSA also found three saw blades hidden in a man's iPad case. The blades were confiscated, and the man was allowed to board his flight.
